B. A. M. S. (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery): The course is of 5½ years which includes one year of essential internship. Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) regulates Ayurvedic Education in India. India is credited to gift this form of medicine to the world. Ayurvedic treatment which exists in India since ages is fast gaining popularity amongst medical students.

 

M.S. (Master of Surgery): This course is a three year postgraduate degree program in Surgery. Doctors must have M.B.B.S. degree to take this course. Having M.S greatly adds value in the CV of a doctor.

 

M.D. (Doctor of Medicine): similar to M.S, M.D is also a three year postgraduate degree program. The eligibility criterion for this medicine course is M.B.B.S.

 

M.Ch.: This course is a two year super specialty program in surgery. M.S degree is a must to get into this course.

 

D.M.: A super specialty program in medicine, D.M. is of 2 to 3 years duration. The eligibility criterion is M.D. degree.

A career in medical field is quite sought after amongst the youths of India. Indian Medical Colleges are best in the world in terms of quality and cost. Indian hospitals are also quite popular worldwide because of excellent medical care provided by them. Recent progress in medical field in India has also given rise to many patients seeking urgent specialized medical treatment flocking to India because of the cost and quality factor advantage. India is witnessing the positive phenomenon of medical tourism. India is slowly emerging as a popular hub for super specialty treatment. All these factors make a career in medical field quite appealing. There are several courses in this field.

 

M. B. B. S. (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery): this course is of 5½ years which includes 4½ years of classroom study which is followed one year of internship. To get into MBBS one must have cleared plus two with physics, chemistry and biology as subjects. This course involves three professional exams and practical and clinical exams.

 

B. H. M. S. (Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine & Surgery): duration of this course is 5½ years and that includes compulsory internship for one year. National Institute of Homoeopathy runs Homoeopathic Education in India.

 

B. D. S. (Bachelor of Dental Surgery): BDS is a four years course which like other medical courses is followed by one year of compulsory internship. This course has four parts and each one of them is of one year duration.
