Career Dilemma

March 30, 2009

matching-up3Job scenario is not inspiring too much of confidence. They say, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. No doubt, placement scene at IITs and IIMs are always going to be good. Though slightly muted yet the students over there will manage to get the placements. But what about state level colleges? Most of the companies are postponing their recruitments and few others are taking back their offer letters. Few companies are remodeling the offer letters. Most of the fancied companies that used to offer unheard of sums can no longer be seen in sight. It also says that, what was in demand yesterday may not be so today.

Many students are always in dilemma about the right career choice. Most of them don’t think of the career that suits their interest, rather they focus upon which one will pay more. That’s definitely a wrong way to look at one’s career. According to one survey, a large majority of the students have already planned of a different career despite being in a diverse career currently. The thinking behind such moves is of timing one’s job prospects as per the market and economic condition. It’s almost like one is playing up with lucrative salary offer of a particular job five years down the line. That’s an ideal thinking but way beyond than realm of practicality. Our coming article will talk about few of the hot careers and viable industries even during the time of recession.

Graduation speeches

March 20, 2009

Writing a speech is an art. A good speech is one that the audience listens to and remembers the words. A graduation speech is given during a graduation ceremony when students are dressed their best in colorful graduation dresses. It is made by student or by an alumnus of a university to fellow students and guests. The key to writing a good speech lies in using a theme. Graduation speeches include wishing all the good luck to the students who enter the corporate field and inspiring them to lead a successful and a rewarding career and life.

Sometimes, speeches get too boring and hence are not liked by the audience. Therefore, it is important to include humor or graduation sayings in these speeches too. In contrast to that, inspirational graduation speeches with the right focus can drive the audience. A good graduation speech is one that is made for the graduating class.  Hence a speech should contain details specific of student’s experiences.  It is not necessary that a graduation speech should be inspiring and contain some serious advice. One should not preach sermons. Instead funny graduation speeches can make the audience amused. Listeners will enjoy each word of what the speaker says.

Narrate a lot of experiences or funny stories that might have occurred during the school or graduating days. Incidents about teachers, fellow students, peons etc can be very pleasing. One can even talk about values and principles that the school has given to students. The less the advices the better it is. As a graduation speech speaker, one should not forget to thanks the principal, teacher s and parents too.

Creative Writing

March 10, 2009

Though it is said that no one in the world can teach you to be creative, there is definitely a lot to learn about creative writing. While it is true that you cannot teach somebody to be creative, the essential guidelines, structure and models that there in any theory are there in creative writing as well. They needs to be learnt. To facilitate that, there are few but good courses in the country that teach the basic nuances of this art. No, you cannot expect to do this course and become a Dan Brown or an Ayn Rand or even a Chetan Bhagat.

Writing is surely an art but just like one needs to learn to hold the paint brush and mix colors, you need to learn to write in certain order, certain structure or learn different writing plot styles. It basically teaches you to how to present your creative ideas.

One of the famous distance learning courses on creative writing is DCE (Diploma in creative writing) that is offered by IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University).

The subjects that are offered here are feature writing, short story writing, writing for radio and television, general writing and writing poetry. The institute provides you with all the basic study material. There are a few assignments that need to be completed and also an extensive project which is equivalent of one subject. This course can be completed in a year’s time or can also be extended up to four years.
